Education World: The More Books at Home, The Higher the Child’s Education

My school recently had a visitor (Barbara Dalio) who had expressed an interest in helping our students achieve success. I took Barbara and others on a tour of our school. During the tour I talked about some of the wonderful programs we have developed to support our students. Barbara asked us to write up a proposal about a need for our school. I have always tried to get books into children's hands over my career. I support a Student of the Week which allows me to give a book to each child (about 20 books each week. I also support a 3 Thumbs Up Award (caught being good) which also allows me to give out a book to that child. I also made a connection with Books2Connect which gives each child a book for their birthday. These books are books that go home and become part of the child's home library. Our proposal for Barbara was written by Jenna Masone, Asst Principal and it requested that each child would receive 5 books (3 non-fiction) during this school year. Well, Barbara's foundation (Dalio Foundation) accepted the proposal an awarded us $10,920 to purchase the books. Our hope that this year each child will receive 10 books for their home library.
